Thursday 17 April 2025 | 6pm Beirut Time | Online by registration
The panel discussion follows from a collaboration between Alameda Institute, the Beirut Institute for Critical Analysis and Research (BICAR), and the Anti-Racism Movement (ARM) on the subject of surplus populations. It investigates the connection between proletarianization and surplus labour in times of disaster and displacement. The panelists will discuss research conducted on anti-Syrian hostility and surplus population from a critical theoretical approach and offer insights into the structural and systemic connections between migrant labour, developmentalist discourses, and economic crises within the Lebanese context.
